Dublin branch received 86,000 caller contacts last year, of which 50,000 were calls from people wanting emotional support.
Suicidal thoughts were expressed in 21% of the calls.
We receive slightly more calls from males than from females.
We have 260 active volunteers who ensure the help-lines are answered 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Organisation as a whole
In 2006 Samaritans received over 5,206,044 contacts, by phone, email, letter, face-to-face at a branch, through our work in prisons, and and at local and national festivals and other events.
There was a total of 16,826 volunteers (active and inactive) in 2006. Our active volunteers gave 2,292,600, hours of their time to provide confidential emotional support.
